The Old Vine Registry

We’re proud to promote The Old Vine Registry (OVR)—a global, open resource documenting the world’s heritage vineyards. Initiated by Jancis Robinson and colleagues and developed into a searchable database under Alder Yarrow, it brings scattered records into one place so growers, students, the trade, and wine lovers can find vineyards, the people who farm them, and the wines they produce.

At its core are two questions: “Why do old vines matter?” and “How do we protect them?” The Registry makes the case clearly: older vineyards are resilient, often needing fewer inputs and offering genetic and cultural continuity; protecting them starts with recognising and valuing that resilience across the supply chain.

The platform is crowdsourced—use it to research, and contribute new sites or corrections to keep the data current. Browse by region, variety, or producer, and use the FAQs to understand inclusion criteria and how to submit.

Congratulations to the creators and contributors for building such an important resource for the wine world.
