    At a Glance

    • Etymology: Pourpre = purple. It is a cuvée name not a lieu-dit.
    • Size: 0.52 ha (1.28 ac)
    • Varieties: Field blends of approximately 50% each of Pinot Noir and Gamay.
    • Vine Age: Planted from 1971 to 2001
    • Terroir: Rouge Champs (across the road from the southwest corner of Clos Vougeot); Pièce des Paquiers (near Flagey-Echezeaux); Genevrays (near Gilly-lès-Citeaux).
    • Viticulture: Uncertified biodynamic
    • Vinification: 25% whole-cluster, ambient yeast ferment, three to four pigeages in total; aged in oak barrels (10% new) for 12 to 18 months. Since 2016, very moderate sulfur additions: none during vinification, a little during élevage and before bottling, for a total of 15 to 20 ppm.

    Additional Info

    As of the 2018 vintage and with his old vines, great genetic material, and field blends, Pascal felt the name Passetoutgrain was too generic and did not do justice to the wine. He chose to call it Pourpre in reference to its deep purplish hue.
